Mini Poinsettia

PoinsettiaLight: When your customer takes their poinsettia home, recommend the following: place it near a sunny window where it will have the most available sunlight. A window that faces south, east or west is better than one facing north. If direct sun hits the poinsettias though a window, diffuse with a shade or sheer curtain.

TemperatureTo keep the plant in bloom, maintain it at a temperature of 65 to 70 degrees F during the daylight hours and, if possible, move it to a cooler place at night. Because root rot disease is more prevalent at temperatures below 60 degrees F, do not put the poinsettia in a room colder than this. Avoid exposing the plant to hot or cold drafts, which may cause premature leaf drop.  Temperatures below 50F will usually cause them to lose all their bracts and stop flowering.Poinsettia

Water: Examine the soil daily, and when the surface is dry to the touch, water the soil until it runs freely out the drainage hole in the container. The
amount of water recommended in the table for use in various sized containers ensures that enough water will be applied so that some will run out the drainage hole. If a saucer is used, discard the water that collects in it. Do not leave the plant standing in water. Overly wet soil lacks sufficient air, which results in root injury.

Other Important Insights:

1. No need to fertilize your poinsettias while in bloom.  Fertilization is something best NOT to do while your poinsettia is flowering.  This will also cause flowering to end prematurely, though it probably won’t hurt your plant as long as you use a well-balanced, water-based fertilizer.

2. Keep your plant away from heavy drafts, fans, and air-conditioners.  These plants are very sensitive to these minor fluctuations while flowering.

GENERAL CARE

Micky’s minis continues to offer more plants with our unique soilless growth medium. This medium is specially designed to enhance the quality and shelflife of our miniature plants. Shipping with our soil us medium also eliminates loose dirt in the box from rough shipping conditions

By avoiding the normal causes that are detrimental to plants (i.e. excessive hot or cold temperatures, drafts, etc.) your customer should find much enjoyment from their Miniature Potted Plants. Remember, it is very easy to over water miniature potted plants. Therefore it is best to set them in  a pan of lukewarm water for about 10 to 20 minutes.  Then let the plant drain for 5 minutes before placing it back in its favorite spot. Most minis will require watering every 2 or 3 days depending on how hot and dry it is.

If your mini is grown in the foam medium, never let the foam go completely dry.  If it becomes hard, place the miniature plant in a pan of warm water for 30 to 60 minutes or until it starts to rehydrate.  Depending on how long the foam has been dry will determine if the plant can come back.
